There is one major difference between the European and American versions of Roulette. On the European wheel there is the numbers from 1 to 36 coloured black and red and a single zero coloured green. The American wheel on the other hand has 1 to 36 coloured balck and red with a single zero and double zero coulored green. The significance of this is that the zerro/ double zero discrepance actually changes the house advantage by almost double from 2.7 on the European Wheel to 5.26 on the American Wheel.
It is also common in European casinos to use the en prison rule. The gambler, if the zero comes up, can either forfeit one half of their outside wagers or leave them for the next game. If you take this rule into consideration then the European House advantage is cut to only 1.35% compared to the 5.26% for American Roulette. So the idea is to play European Roulette as opposed to American Roulette as your chances of winning on the European wheel are much higher.
